For anyone who’s a fan of Snickers bars, this Creamy Snickers Overnight Oats recipe is like waking up to your favorite candy bar, only better. Combining oats with chocolate and peanut butter layers, this breakfast recipe has all the flavors you love in a Snickers bar, minus the hassle. What sets this recipe apart is its higher protein content—thanks to a blend of cottage cheese and protein powder, giving you a filling breakfast that lasts. I blend the cottage cheese until smooth to remove any curdled texture before it’s combined with the oats, so you’re left with a silky, creamy base. And it’s naturally sweetened with maple syrup.

With healthy fats from peanuts and peanut butter, hearty rolled oats, and a chocolate layer, it’s the perfect make-ahead breakfast or delicious snack. Whether you’re prepping it for the next morning or looking for a satisfying way to enjoy Snickers-inspired flavors, this recipe is one you’ll come back to again and again!

Ingredients & Substitutions

Here is everything you need to make the best Snickers overnight oatmeal recipe recipe:

Old-Fashioned Oats: If you prefer a softer texture, quick oats work just fine! And if you’re gluten-free, make sure to grab certified gluten-free oats.

Almond Milk: Use any non-dairy milk you enjoy—oat milk, soy milk, cashew milk, or coconut milk. You can also use regular dairy milk, which will make it extra creamy and delicious. I like to use unsweetened, vanilla-flavored almond milk.

Cottage Cheese: You can use any cottage cheese, including large curd and small curd, low-fat and non-fat. Greek yogurt is a great swap if you’re looking for something just as creamy and protein-packed. But it is tarter than cottage cheese, so you may need to add a little more maple syrup to your preferred sweetness level.

Protein Powder: I recommend using a vanilla-flavored protein powder with flavor you like. But you can also use chocolate, or even peanut butter protein powder. This is my favorite organic vanilla protein powder with vegetable, nut, and seed protein. You can also omit the protein powder and replace it with 1/2 teaspoon of vanilla extract for yummy flavor.

Maple Syrup: Honey or agave syrup will bring a similar sweetness if that’s more your style.

Creamy Peanut Butter: I like to use unsweetened, all-natural peanut butter. Almond butter, cashew butter, or even sunflower seed butter (for a nut-free option) are all tasty alternatives! You can also use crunchy peanut butter for extra texture.

Chocolate Chips: Go for dark chocolate chips, milk chocolate, or even cocoa nibs if you want a little less sweetness. You can also melt down your favorite chocolate bar.

Coconut Oil: You can skip it if needed, or swap in a little butter for richness.

Peanuts: Almonds or cashews work well too if you’re looking to change up the crunch factor.

Here are easy, detailed, step-by-step instructions for making my Snickers oatmeal. The instructions are also repeated in the recipe card at the bottom of this blog post.

Step 1: Blend the Cottage Cheese

In an upright blender or food processor, combine 3/4 cup almond milk, 1/2 cup cottage cheese, 3 tablespoons protein powder, and 1 tablespoons maple syrup. Blend until smooth.

Step 2: Combine the Oats

In an airtight jar or container combine 1 cup old fashioned oats, and 2 pinches of salt with the blended cottage cheese mixture.

Cover and refrigerate overnight, or at least for 4 hours, so the oats soften and absorb the flavors.

Combining all the ingredients in a jar to soak overnight.

Step 3: Layer the Peanut Butter, Chocolate and Oats

In a small bowl, stir together 2 tablespoons peanut butter and 1 tablespoon maple syrup until smooth.

In a microwave-safe bowl, combine 3 tablespoons chocolate chips and  1/2 teaspoon coconut oil and heat in 25-second intervals, stirring in between, until melted.

In your serving bowl layer the oats, peanut butter, melted chocolate, and 1 tablespoon chopped peanuts and enjoy!

Refrigerate: Keep any leftovers in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 3 days.

Grab-and-Go Jars: Store in single-serve jars for easy grab-and-go breakfasts or snacks.

No Freezing: These oats are best enjoyed fresh and don’t freeze well due to the cottage cheese.

Can I use quick oats instead of old-fashioned oats in overnight oats?
Absolutely! Quick oats will give you a softer, creamier texture. Just keep in mind they might soak up the liquid faster, so feel free to adjust the almond milk if it looks too thick.

Is there a substitute for cottage cheese for added protein?
Definitely! Greek yogurt works wonderfully here and still gives you that creamy texture and protein punch. Use whatever you have on hand or love the taste of!

Can I eat these Snickers oats warm instead of cold?
Of course! Just pop them in the microwave for about a minute or until warmed through. Add your toppings after heating, and you’ve got a cozy, chocolatey start to the day.

What type of protein powder works best?
I think vanilla gives the best balance to the peanut butter and melted chocolate. But you can use any flavor you like. Just be sure to pick one with a flavor you enjoy. This is my favorite vanilla protein powder to use with this recipe.

Can I make this easy Snickers-inspired recipe without protein powder?
Yes, you can replace it with 1/2 teaspoon of vanilla extract for yummy flavor.

Can I make these with less sugar?
Yes, you can! Feel free to reduce or skip the maple syrup.

  1. Made this one for my husband and he loved it! He’s not really a fan of overnight oats, glad I found one for him! I was surprised how much this tasted like snickers, I did make mine a little too sweet for me so next time I won’t add so much maple syrup. 🥣
