Ingredients & Substitutions

Here is everything you need to make the best homemade yogurt clusters recipe:

Banana: You can substitute the banana with sliced strawberries or blueberries for a fruity twist, or use frozen banana chunks for a slightly different texture.

Greek Yogurt: Swap with plain coconut yogurt or almond yogurt for a dairy-free version.

Natural Unsweetened Peanut Butter: Almond butter, cashew butter, or sunflower seed butter are great alternatives. Just make sure they’re unsweetened for the same balanced flavor.

Honey: Replace honey with maple syrup, agave syrup, or a few drops of stevia for a lower sugar option.

Vanilla: If you’re out of vanilla extract, you can use almond extract or leave it out entirely for a more straightforward flavor.

Salt: If you don’t have regular salt, coarse sea salt or pink Himalayan salt will work beautifully. Just adjust the amount to your taste.

Chocolate Chips: Use dairy-free chocolate chips or dark chocolate chunks for a more intense chocolate flavor. You could even use white chocolate for a sweeter version.

Coconut Oil: Butter or ghee can be substituted if you don’t have coconut oil, or omit it entirely if you’re using a high-quality melting chocolate.

Peanuts: Swap with chopped almonds, walnuts, or even crushed pretzels for a salty crunch!

Frequently Asked Questions

I keep mine in an airtight container in the freezer so they stay firm and delicious. Just let them sit out for 5 minutes before eating for the best texture—they’ll be creamy, chilled, and just the right amount of melty.

Yes! You can easily use a dairy-free Greek-style yogurt and dairy-free chocolate chips. I’ve done this a few times, and they still turn out creamy and rich with the same sweet-savory balance.

They can soften a bit at room temperature after 10–15 minutes, so I usually keep them frozen until ready to serve. The chocolate holds things together, but they’re best enjoyed chilled for that perfect bite.

You can, but keep in mind regular yogurt is thinner and might make the clusters less firm. If that’s all you have, try mixing it with a little less banana or freeze them longer for a firmer texture.

They stay good for up to 2 weeks when stored in a sealed container. I like to make a double batch and grab one when I’m craving something sweet but still want to keep things balanced.

I love using a silicone mini muffin pan—it makes layering the banana slices, yogurt-peanut butter mixture, and melted chocolate super easy. Plus, they pop out perfectly once frozen—no sticking or mess.

Absolutely! You can substitute the Greek yogurt with coconut or almond yogurt, and use dairy-free chocolate chips.
