How long does it take to cook air fryer tortilla pizza?

This varies depending on the recipe and your air fryer, but it typically takes 7 minutes at 385°F.

How do you crisp up the tortilla pizza crust?

The secret hack to a crispy tortilla like a traditional thin-crust pizza is to precook the tortilla in the air fryer for a few minutes until it is toasted before adding toppings. Other recipes have you add your toppings to a cold tortilla. When air-fried, it gets toasty on the edges but is soft in the middle under the sauce and ingredients. My easy recipe is a much better method for a crispy tortilla that is strong enough to hold your delicious ingredients but still soft and chewy.

Ingredients & Substitutions

Here is everything you need to make the best-tasting personal pepperoni pizza on a tortilla in the air fryer:

Tortilla: You have lots of options for the tortilla. I recommend using flour tortillas because they crisp really well. Depending on your dietary preference, you can use low-carb tortillas, whole wheat tortillas, gluten-free tortillas, or spinach tortillas. I do not recommend using corn tortillas because they become more of a tostada once they bake. You can also use pita bread or naan bread for a thicker crust.

Pizza Sauce: You can use your favorite sauce including pizza sauce, marinara sauce, tomato sauce or tomato paste.

Pepperoni: Use turkey pepperoni for a leaner option or any other cooked meat.

Mozzarella Cheese: This is my favorite cheese to use because it melts and gives the classic cheese-pull. But, you can use cheddar cheese, provolone cheese, or a blend of cheeses for variety.

How to Make My Thin, Crispy Oat Flour Pizza Crust Recipe

Here are easy, detailed, step-by-step instructions for the best way to make oat flour pizza dough. They’re also repeated in the recipe card at the bottom of this blog post.

Step 1: Prepare Your Tortilla Pizza Crust

Preheat your air fryer to 385°F (195°C).

Carefully place your tortilla in the bottom of the air fryer basket.

Place a small heatproof glass or ceramic bowl on top of the tortilla to keep it from blowing around in the air fryer.

Air fry for 4 minutes at 385°F. Flip the tortilla over half way and move the small bowl to a different spot on the tortilla. The tortilla should be stiff enough to hold its shape but not toasted brown yet.

Once done, carefully remove the pizza from the air fryer using tongs or a spatula and place it on a cutting board or plate.

Step 2: Add Your Favorite Pizza Toppings

Spread 2 tablespoons of pizza sauce evenly over the tortilla.

Once done, carefully remove the pizza from the air fryer using tongs or a spatula.

Let it cool for a minute or two before slicing and serving.

Thin and Crispy Tortilla Pizza in an Air Fryer Recipe Notes

Ingredients Order: Depending on how strong the air blows in your air fryer, you’ll want to put lightweight ingredients, like thinly sliced pepperoni and fresh basil, under the cheese layer so they don’t get blown off the pizza.

Tortilla Size: The recipe calls for a standard 8-inch tortilla. You can use a larger tortilla if it will fit inside your air-fryer and not touch the sides. You also may need to adjust the cooking time accordingly.

Recommended Pizza Flavors:

Here are a few delicious pizza toppings for your favorite tortilla pizza:

Classic Pepperoni: pizza sauce, mozzarella cheese, and pepperoni.

Supreme Pizza: pizza sauce, cheese, pepperoni, sausage, bell peppers, onions, and mushrooms.

Vegetarian: pizza sauce, cheese, green bell peppers, onions, mushrooms, black olives, spinach and tomatoes.

Meat Lovers: pizza sauce, cheese, pepperoni, ground beef, sausage, bacon, and sometimes ham or beef.

BBQ Chicken: BBQ sauce, cheese, grilled chicken, red onions, and sometimes cilantro.

Hawaiian: pizza sauce, cheese, ham and pineapple.

Four Cheese Pizza: pizza sauce, mozzarella, parmesan, ricotta, and asiagocheese.

Buffalo Chicken: buffalo sauce, cheese, grilled chicken, red onions, and sometimes ranch or blue cheese dressing, offering a spicy and tangy flavor.

Pesto Pizza: pesto sauce, fresh basil, diced chicken, monterey jack cheese.

Extra Seasonings: Italian seasoning, red pepper flakes, garlic aioli

Refrigeration: Store any leftover air-fried tortilla pizza in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 3 days.

Freezing: You can freeze the pizza for longer storage. Place the cooled pizza in a single layer on a baking sheet and freeze until firm. Once frozen, transfer the pizza to a freezer-safe bag or container. It should keep well for up to 1 month.

Reheating: To reheat the refrigerated pizza, you can use the air fryer again. Preheat the air fryer to 350°F (175°C) and cook the pizza for about 3-5 minutes, or until heated through.

Freezing Tips: When freezing the pizza, you can separate the individual slices with parchment paper to prevent them from sticking together.

How do I bake a tortilla pizza in the oven?
Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C) and bake the pizza on a baking sheet for about 8-10 minutes, or until the cheese is bubbly and the edges of the tortilla are golden brown.

Can I use a different sauce for the crispy tortilla crust?
Absolutely! You can use any sauce you like, such as marinara sauce, pesto, or even BBQ sauce for a different flavor.

Can I add more toppings to delicious air fryer tortilla pizzas?
Of course! Feel free to add any additional toppings you like, such as vegetables, meats, or extra cheese.

Can I make this easy air fryer tortilla pizza ahead of time?
You can prepare the pizza ahead of time and refrigerate it until you’re ready to cook it. Just make sure to let it come to room temperature before air frying to ensure even cooking.
