Shredded Frozen Hash Browns Air Fryer | Easy Crispy

Gentle Tummy

Ingredients

  • 16 ounces frozen hash browns
  • 2 tablespoons light olive oil
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon onion powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • dash pepper

Instructions

  • In a medium-sized mixing bowl, add 2 tablespoons of light olive oil, 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder, 1/4 teaspoon onion powder, 1/2 teaspoon salt, and a dash of black pepper. Add the frozen hash browns and stir with a spatula to evenly coat.
  • Air Fryer Method: Do not preheat the air fryer. Wrap the air fryer tray with parchment paper and press down into the air fryer basket. Dump in the seasoned hash browns. Cook at 385°F for 15-20 minutes, stirring every 5 minutes, until they are golden brown.
  • Skillet Method: Bring a skillet to medium/high heat and add the seasoned hash browns. Cook until the hash browns are crispy and golden brown, flipping occasionally, about 10-12 minutes. Set aside.
  • Oven Method: Line or lightly grease a baking sheet with parchment paper. Spread the seasoned hash browns in an even layer. Bake the hash browns for 20-25 minutes, flipping halfway through, then every 5 minutes until golden brown and crispy. If you prefer extra crispiness, leave them in for a few more minutes.

Notes

Air Fryer Size: Make sure not to overcrowd the air fryer basket. Spread the hash browns in a single layer to help them cook evenly. If necessary, cook in batches to achieve maximum crispiness.
Stirring for Even Crisping: Stirring every 5 minutes helps the hash browns cook evenly and get crispy on all sides. If you skip this step, some areas may stay soft and less crispy.
Don’t Preheat the Air Fryer: Starting with a cold air fryer allows the hash browns to cook through evenly and gives you time to stir without them sticking too early in the process.
Oil Alternatives: Using a small amount of oil helps crisp the hash browns, but if you’re trying to cut down on oil, you can spray them lightly with cooking spray instead of using the full 2 tablespoons of oil.
Frozen Hash Browns Tip: It’s best not to thaw the frozen hash browns before air frying as this could make them soggy. Cooking from frozen ensures they crisp up nicely.
