Lighter Juicy Air Fryer Chicken Burgers High-Protein Recipe

Gentle Tummy

Ingredients

  • 1 pound ground chicken
  • 1 egg
  • 1/2 cup Cheese (shredded)
  • 1/2 cup almond flour (or bread crumbs)
  • 1/3 cup white onion (finely diced)
  • 3 cloves garlic (minced)
  • 2 teaspoons Worcestershire sauce
  • 1-1/2 teaspoons salt
  • 1 teaspoon Italian seasoning
  • 1 teaspoon paprika
  • 1/2 teaspoon onion powder
  • dash black pepper

Instructions

  • Add one egg to a large bowl and gently whisk until combined. Then add the shredded Monterey Jack cheese, almond flour (or breadcrumbs), finely diced white onion, minced garlic, Worcestershire sauce, salt, Italian seasoning, paprika, onion powder, and black pepper. Mix well until all ingredients are evenly incorporated. Add the ground chicken and fold it into the ingredients with your hands just until combined. Be careful not to overmix.
  • Place a sheet of parchment on your cutting board or work surface. Divide the chicken mixture into 4-5 equal portions. Shape each portion into a patty, about 1/2 to 3/4 inch thick on the parchment paper.
  • Preheat your air fryer to 375°F (190°C) for about 3. Spray the basket with non-pressurized oil spray. Do not use non-stick cooking spray as this can damage some air fryers.
Place chicken patties in the preheated air fryer basket in a single layer, making sure they are not touching each other. Lightly baste the top of each patty with light olive oil or avocado oil.
Cook at 400°F (200°C) for about 10 minutes. Half-way through, flip the patties over and baste the top with oil again. Then continue to cook until the burgers are golden brown and cooked through (the internal temperature of the chicken patty should reach 165°F or 74°C).
Once cooked, remove the chicken burgers from the air fryer and let them rest for a few minutes for the juiciest burgers.

Pan-Fried Chicken Burger Instructions:

  • Heat a non-stick skillet or frying pan over medium heat. If desired, you can add a small amount of oil to the pan, but it's unnecessary if using a non-stick pan.
Place the chicken patties in the preheated pan, making sure not to overcrowd the pan. Cook the patties for about 5-6 minutes per side, or until they are golden brown and cooked through. Use a spatula to carefully flip the patties halfway through cooking.
The internal temperature of the chicken burgers should reach 165°F (74°C) when fully cooked. You can use a meat thermometer to check the temperature.

Oven Baked Chicken Burger Instructions:

  • Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper or aluminum foil for easy cleanup. Place the chicken patties on the prepared baking sheet, leaving some space between each patty.
Bake the chicken burgers for about 20-25 minutes, or until they are cooked through and the internal temperature reaches 165°F (74°C). Flip the burgers halfway through cooking for even browning.

Notes

Almond Flour: Almond flour is used as a low-carb, gluten-free alternative to breadcrumbs. If you prefer, you can use breadcrumbs or crushed crackers instead.
Fresh Onion and Garlic: Freshly minced garlic and finely diced onion add great flavor to the burgers. You can use onion powder and garlic powder instead for gentler digestion.
Seasonings: The combination of Worcestershire sauce, salt, Italian seasoning, paprika, onion powder, and black pepper adds depth of flavor to the burgers. Feel free to adjust the seasonings to suit your taste preferences.
Air Fryer Cooking: Cooking times may vary depending on the size and model of your air fryer. Make sure to flip the burgers halfway through cooking for even browning.
