Ground Turkey Breakfast Sausage (Juicy Maple Sage)

Ingredients
  

  • 1 pound ground turkey
  • 1 tablespoon worchestershire sauce (gluten-free)
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1 teaspoon ground sage
  • 1 teaspoon crushed rosemary
  • 1 teaspoon paprika
  • 1/2 teaspoon thyme
  • 1/8 teaspoon maple extract (optional)
  • dash black pepper

Instructions
 

  • Bring a skillet to medium heat and add 1 teaspoon of light olive oil and 1 pound of ground turkey. Break it up with a spatula and sprinkle in the 1 tablespoon of Worcestershire sauce, 1 teaspoon each of salt, garlic powder, ground sage, rosemary, paprika, 1/2 teaspoon thyme, and 1/8 teaspoon maple extract (optional).
  • Continue to stir occasionally until the meat is no longer pink and cooked through. Transfer to a plate lined with a paper towel.

Notes

Don’t overcook the turkey: Lean ground turkey cooks fast. As soon as there’s no pink left, pull it from the heat so it stays juicy instead of drying out.
Season while it cooks: Adding the Worcestershire and spices early lets the turkey absorb flavor as it browns, not just coat the outside.
Break it up gently: Use a spatula to crumble the turkey as it cooks, but don’t constantly stir. Letting it sit briefly helps it brown and develop flavor.
Use a good pan: A nonstick or hybrid pan works best here so the turkey browns evenly without sticking or needing extra oil.
Taste and adjust at the end: If you want a little more herb flavor or warmth, a small pinch of sage or black pepper at the end goes a long way.
